Recapping Our Volunteering Expo 2026

That's a wrap!

The Volunteering Expo 2026 was a prelude to National Volunteer Week and was huge success, held at Knox Council on the 15th of May. We welcomed 43 not-for-profit organisation stallholders all showcasing their organisation, highlighting their valuable mission and seeking enthusiastic and willing volunteers!

With 550 people through the doors the room was filled with community spirit! Tables were bright and packed with information, take home flyers and giveaways attracting attention with lots of people stopping by each stall to find out about the diverse range of volunteer opportunities and services.

It’s not that often that we all come together under one roof and this opportunity received lots of great feedback, with some organisations receiving 20+ volunteer expressions of interest!

Knox Mayor Paige Kennett officially opened the Expo and along with many Knox councillors who stayed to connect with the community. Even joining in our very special Teddy Bear Project, where the community chose 3 knitted teddy outfits and lovingly dressed and named their bear.

120 teddies were dressed and each one will be donated to local charities to bring a smile to a child in need! Thank you Coonara Sunny Room Knitters for knitting over 500 pieces of teddy clothing over 6 months!

Knox Community Chess Enthusiasts, Mahjong Connections the Rowville and Coonara Community Knitters shared opportunities to volunteer and join their groups, a great way to keep the mind active and an important social outlet for the Knox community.

Radio Eastern FM went live to air interviewing several not-for-profit organisations, with over 50,000 listeners volunteering in Knox was on the big stage!. Sharing is caring! Huge thank you to Knox City Council for their continued support, the Knox Learning Alliance (5 local community houses) our governance team and everyone involved that made the day so meaningful.

We would like to do a shout out to Dekate Videos for capturing the essence of our Volunteering Expo on event day!
